NEW! tutoring/mentoring

Lisa has a good sense of the whole publishing and book marketing industries. She can take a manuscript from almost any author--even the most novice of writers--and make it a potential best seller. But you have to be willing to give up your preconceived (sometimes mis-)conceptions, and let her guide you to writing a better book. Sometimes the things she has to say and the suggestions she has for writers are not what they want to hear.  But if you let go and let her help you--by not only editing your book but guiding you on developing a more marketable book--she can make you a success also!

Background

I've been writing professionally since 1985, and proofreading and editing almost as long. I earned a B.S. in journalism from the University of Kansas.

Awards

Two national awards from the Livestock Publications Council (LPC), one for general Editorial Excellence in 1992 and one for “The Sheep’s Best Friend” in 1994.

My novel “Mirror Mountain” was a finalist in the Delacorte Press (Doubleday, New York) First Young Adult Novel contest in 1993.

My novel “Everybody Knows This is Nowhere” won first place in the national Paul Gillette Memorial writing contest in 2005.

I'm a lot like John Nash in A Beautiful Mind, except instead of seeing patterns in numbers, I see typos as if they're already outlined in red. It's kind of a weirdo-savant thing that I can't control, but it sure comes in handy.

I'm ridiculously quick and accurate.

At my last corporate job, my red pen became an object of terror and earned me an interesting nickname, which is reflected in the title of my newsletter Fun with Conan the Grammarian. Click on the brain at left to subscribe for free.
